UPDATE: Removal of Old Machine Tool
March 8, 2023
Pioneer Motor Bearing Co. is thrilled to announce its first foray into 5-axis capabilities with the acquisition of a DMG Mori DMC 125 duoBLOCK machine tool. This significant investment in cutting-edge technology is a major milestone and will allow the company to broaden its product offering beyond babbitt bearings. The tool is currently in production in Germany and slated to arrive in port mid April. Pioneer envisions putting the new tool to use in May 2023.
The DMC 125 duoBLOCK is a state-of-the-art machine tool that offers several advantages over traditional machining equipment. Its advanced design and construction allow for high-speed cutting, improved accuracy, and increased efficiency. With the addition of 5-axis capabilities, Pioneer can now offer customers even more complex machined parts and intricate designs. The new 5-axis tool adds to the growing list of new CNC tools installed at Pioneer in the last few years: Trak DPM RX5 mill, Trak DPM RX7 mill, Trak TRL 2470RX lathe, Hyundai WIA KBN 135 horizontal mill, Momentum MVL-12 vertical lathe, Okuma VTR-160A veritcal lathe, and an upgraded 4-axis HAAS EC-1600 Mill. Furthermore, Pioneer will be taking delivery later this year of a new Summit SCV-48 hybrid CNC VBM.
For over 100 years Pioneer has concentrated exclusively on babbitt bearings and seals. With a focused machine toolset, Pioneer’s capabilities to provide other precision machined components to our customers had been limited. However, with the DMC 125 duoBLOCK, we can now offer a wider range of products, such as impellers, nozzles, burners, gears, specialty bolts, and other critical components for various industries. On that note, Adrian Bardet VP Sales & Marketing commented “While we are going to maintain our industry-leading babbitt bearing offerings, we look forward to utilizing our new 5-axis machine to produce non-bearing parts. Our customers will see the same great quality and dependability as they’re accustomed to in our bearing products. There are numerous parts that makeup the machines our bearings go into and it’s a natural progression to provide these new services to our customers.”

One of the key advantages of the DMC 125 duoBLOCK is its superior precision. With its high accuracy and repeatability, we can achieve tighter tolerances and produce complex parts with greater consistency. This means that our customers can expect a higher quality of workmanship and faster turnaround times.
In addition to its precision, the DMC 125 duoBLOCK also offers increased flexibility. It can perform a wide range of operations, including drilling, milling, and turning, which means we can tackle even the most challenging projects with ease. This machine tool is also equipped with advanced automation features, such as pallet changers and tool magazines, which allow for faster changeovers and reduced downtime.
Overall, the acquisition of the DMC 125 duoBLOCK is a significant investment in our manufacturing capabilities and our ability to provide high-quality, customized solutions to our customers. With this latest addition to our manufacturing lineup, Pioneer is well-positioned to continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers and remain a leader in the industry.
