In the past, the Utility Steam Turbine Division of ABB Power Generation, Inc.did not offer bearing repair services to its customers, who grew increasingly frustrated at the lack of an ABB approved and authorized source for bearing repairs. So, in response to customers’ requests, ABB searched the North American fluid film bearing industry to find the best bearing repair service organization to meet the requirements of the end users operating ABB large utility steam turbine-generator equipment in North America.

ABB’s engineering personnel from Baden, Switzerland, and Richmond, Virginia audited Pioneer, our repair techniques and quality assurance program and procedures. They required and witnessed centrifugal casting, inspection and testing of parts, such as ABB’s three pad, tilting pad bearing (with an outsized loaded pad).

After examining, sampling, testing and questioning everything we do, they approved our process of rebabbitting and quality assurance program and specifications.

In October, 1993, ABB announced the appointment of Pioneer Motor Bearing as its licensee. Thus, we became the sole bearing repair organization authorized and backed by ABB to perform bearing repair services directly for its customers in North America.

Today our license relationship is with Alstom Power, successor in interest to ABB Power Generation. As the U.S. repair service facility authorized by Alstom Power, we are pleased to satisfy the bearing repair requirements of end user customers oeprating Alstom, ABB, BBC, GEC and other machines designed or supported by Alstom Power.
